Required Documentation
- Official Transcripts are Mandatory: An official college transcript from the institution where the coursework was completed is always required for any transfer credit evaluation consideration.
- Dual Enrollment Transcripts: Dual-enrollment courses will not be considered for transfer credit unless supported by an official transcript issued directly by the college, university, or community college that awarded the credit, regardless of whether the coursework appears listed on a high school transcript.
Credit Evaluation and Approval
- Timing of Evaluation: Northeastern does not pre-evaluate courses for transfer credit. Once a student is admitted, they are able to have courses evaluated for transfer credit.
- College Credit and Advanced Exam Deadline: Students have up to one semester after matriculation to reconcile transfer credit earned through college courses or advanced exam results. For more about the exam results which are eligible for transfer credit, please view the resources at the bottom of this page.
- P/Passing Grades: Northeastern only considers courses for credit if a grade of C or higher is earned. Courses taken in a pass/fail format are not considered for credit.
- Credit and Course Equivalency Approvals: The approval of transfer credit and the assignment of course equivalencies are determined solely at the discretion of Northeastern University's evaluators, based on an academic review of the submitted course materials.
- Determination of Credit: Submission of a syllabus does not guarantee transfer credit approval or a specific course equivalency. All final transfer credit determinations remain at the discretion of the evaluator in accordance with established university policies.
- Reusing Courses from Previously Awarded Degrees: Courses applied toward the completion of a previously-awarded bachelor's degree may not be reused to satisfy the requirements of the current degree/matriculated program.
Academic Advising and Course Progression
- Academic Advising Adherence: Academic advisors must adhere to university policies, academic requirements, and degree progression standards when advising students on their transfer credit classes.
- Taking outside classes while enrolled in a Northeastern program: Please consult with your Academic Advisor. There is no guarantee that courses taken outside of Northeastern after enrollment will count toward your degree.
